Alexander Coggin. Yeah, Magic

On February 16th, the London-based artist Alexander Coggin opens his first solo show “Yeah, Magic” at the Nina. The theme of the exhibition is a continuous photographic exploration of visual curiosities through the character-based lens of Alexander Coggin. By conquering the world around him with flashing lights, he explores the uncanny and unexpected. The themes change according to what he finds, but he conjures up strange and wonderful compositions from the most common scenarios. As a trained actor, his theatrical training continues to influence his pictorial development – he is interested in background story, body language and the gap between perception and reality. His bold use of lightning gives his pictures a magical realism.

Alexander Coggin is an American autodidact who lives in London. He has created photo stories for the New York Times, Sleek Magazine, Gourmand, Zeit Magazine, SOFA Magazine, Financial Times, AnOther Magazine, VICE, Neon Magazine, Capital Magazine, Port Magazine, Berlin Art Link, de Volkskrant, Gewo? nliches Magazin, Spike Art Quarterly, WeltKunst and other titles.
