On 17 September 1949, six young West German photographers founded the group “fotoform” as a creative working group and organizational platform that sought a new beginning in post-war photography, free and independent of associations and institutions. The modern visual language developed by the photographers Wolfgang Reisewitz, Ludwig Windstosser, Toni Schneiders, Otto Steinert, Peter Keetman and Siegfried Lauterwasser was not only intended to be factual-documentary, but also to be individually creative and emphasize the photographer’s personal share of the picture.

With the means of photographic image design such as the choice of detail and perspective, detailed photography or experimental methods such as long-term and multiple exposure, laws of nature, technical innovations and social changes were discussed and a new understanding of the world as a whole was expressed.

In our exhibition, works by the six founding members of “fotoform” will be on display, with the themes of “Structure and Abstraction” and “Images of Man”. in the center of attention. On motifs such as shadow and window pictures, objects and people from unusual and unusual backgrounds.
The characteristic pictorial design of the group “fotoform”, which received its greatest international attention and recognition in 1951 under the programmatic title “subjective photography”, is to be shown in the form of angles of vision, water reflections or traces of light.
