Robert Pufleb – All Quiet on the Eastern Front

  • Artists:
    Robert Pufleb
  • Date:
    16.2. to 04.3.2018
  • Venue:

In his soloshow »All Quiet On The Eastern Front« at THE BOX Düsseldorf, Robert Pufleb is exhibiting photographs he encountered during last year‘s trip through Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Russia und Latvia. A journey taking him back to his family origin in Kaliningrad, where he came across urban surfaces, hiding substantial transformations beneth their corroding structures. This applies to the other destinations like Kiev, Minsk, Vilnius and Riga as well. There is a silent but radical change taking place directly related to the social way of life in those countries, due to a growing focus on western leverage and ideals, leaving behind an ambivalent sentiment, which blends fascination and irritation at the same time. Creating a peculiar hybrid of
east-west aesthetics, those situations are concentrated in Pufleb‘s stringent streetphotographs, transmitting a rather inhospitable kind of atmosphere, just like the calm before the storm.
»These photographs are not neat, clean or even pretty. They rather state the refracted structure and formal disturbance of the world we are living in.” (Dr. Emmanuel Mir)
All images are part of his long-term project »Everydaylicity«, collecting photographic observations of cities like Saigon, Kolkatta, Hong Kong, Tokio, Sidney, São Paulo, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Moskau and Chongqing since 2005.
